Election Night
May 6th, 2010 @ 14:03 | permalink
Having cast my vote - with a virtual peg on my nose - on the way to work this morning I shall spend the early hours of tomorrow morning watching the election results come in and live blogging my way through them (or at least those results worth worrying about and assuming I'm still awake). Stupidly I forgot to book tomorrow off so work will certainly be a challenge. :)
Whilst I'd obviously like to see quite a few of the lying, thieving bastards slung out of office, these are the ones I'd really, really like to see the end of:
- David Amess (the local fool)
- Bob Spink (the horrid bullying fuckwit who is my parents MP)
- Harriet Harman
- Ed Balls
- Jacqui Smith
- Hazel Blears
- John Bercow
- Gordon Brown (very unlikely I'll admit)
Anyone else got any politicians they'd desperately like to see the back of?

No surprise in the first result of the evening. Labour take Houghton & Sunderland. Provisional swing to the Tories (based on mathematics as this is a new constituency).
…
@2353: Colour me stupid but why didn't all those people queuing to vote as the polls closed go to vote earlier? I called into my polling station on my way to the railway station this morning. There was a steady trickle of people even then (approx 0720).
…
@0020: Oh dear we are stuck in that boring bit of all the BBC election staff desperately trying to find something to talk about until the pace of the results picks up. Exactly how many champagne socialists have they invited to their party I wonder?
…
@0100: Some hefty swings from Lab to Con in the Labour holds to date. Could see some big Con gains if repeated in more vulnerable seats.
…
@0105: First Con gain of the evening and with a high swing from Labour.
…
@0107: Rumour has it that Basildon (or one of the two now the boundaries have changed) - the seat that spelled the end of Kinnock's dreams of becoming PM in 1992 - has fallen to the Tories.
…
@0121: 'Brillo' repeats the most irritating lie of the last 2 years: that we elect PMs.
All together now: We don't elect PMs in this country. We elect MPs and by custom the leader of the largest party is invited to form a government (of which s/he would then be PM).
Could we please nail this fucking lie once and for fucking all?
…
@0135: Brown retains his seat - not really a surprise though. Pity about the prat standing behind the returning officer with his fist raised and dark glasses on. Brown's speech is making me want to find the sick bucket though.
…
@0143: Your wish isn't granted Jess. The Tories have held The Wrekin.
…
@0211: Looks like the fuckwit Bob Spink is out which is good. BBC had it down as a Con hold though which is correct in relation to 2005 but Spink got slung out of the party a couple of years back.
…
@0222: Lembit Opik is a goner. Well that is probably the biggest upset of the evening, even surpassing that of the ousting of Peter Robinson in NI.
…
0227: Confirmation that Basildon has switched sides. Given its role as a bellwether, is this a sign?
…
@0305: Neck and neck between Con and Lab as I write but my eyelids are drooping. Cameron has just held his seat (another unsurprising result) and is as unsure about the result as the rest of us. Doesn't look like I'm going to see the results of the majority of seats that I'd like to see the results of.
…
@0320: I'm off to bed now. No idea who - if anyone - is going to win at this point but I've got to go to work so really should try and get a couple of hours sleep before then. I'll catch up when I'm awake again.
