Chicago - Day 3

Temperatures are dropping out here - with windchill they are around 0F overnight at the moment - making me glad that I packed my skisocks and a thick jumper. The aforementioned uber-boss has lent me a coat (that she cannot currently get into) capable of coping with the temperatures so I will survive! Some snow on the ground at present - not much but enough that if this were London then public transport would probably be in disarray by now.

On the work front things are going well. The daily chats about front end web dev are being generally well received and the audience is growing. I swear that one of the guys has the zeal of a religious convert. :) I'm just letting them raise anything they want to discuss, giving pointers/guidance that are the result of my years of experience and answering any questions that they have.

As a result of all this though I am getting exposure. They have no front end web dev's out here - only designers who are cross-training - and this has been raised at board level. One result of this is that I'm likely to be speaking with the design head (or whatever his board title is) later this week. I can almost feel the altitude sickness induced nose bleed starting! I'm told that one of his ideas was to have me out here for about six months. Not sure my current boss would take too kindly to that!

Only getting out and about for dinner at the moment but as I can expense all of them it isn't proving to be a massive hardship! Saturday will be sightseeing day and I'm looking up plaxces of interest. One thing I can confirm though is that they do know how to cook steak out here. There's also no shortage of places to eat regardless of one's palate. It'll take a few more visits to work my way around all those I like the look of.

On the subject of steak ... have you found somewhere which does a good prime rib yet?

Just to let you know that it's looking like temps of about 60F next week here.

@Demi: Not yet but then again I haven't been here long enough to sample my way around all the eateries - let alone work my way down the menus.

@Lori: Yay, spring!

Haha. Spring? Almost. Considering it gets up to 100 plus in September. 60 degrees for me is like freezing!!

Fancy joining in?
